Lady Vikings to tee off at Sandpines
Renamed Florence course will host district championships Monday and Tuesday
If you thought the Siuslaw Vikings girls golf team was playing in the district championships next week at Florence Golf Links, you were possibly half right.
The Lady Vikings tee off Monday for the two-day 4A/3A/2A/1A Special District 4 championships at the newly reminted Sandpines Golf Links.
“Yes, it is now officially Sandpines Golf Links,” Siuslaw assistant golf coach Chrissy Davis said. “And yes, the varsity is playing its tournament here Monday and Tuesday.
“I am the Co-Director of the Tournament with Nik Remer, PGA pro at the course. There will be a full 18-hole round each day.”
The roster-short Lady Vikings turned in some good rounds Monday at the Diamond Woods Golf Course in Monroe.
“Although we did not field a full team, I took three girls and two of them set their personal best records,” Davis said.
“Maely Chiang shot a personal best of 107 and placed fourth overall. Jozy Hulet shot a very good 115 and placed sixth overall.
“Our newest varsity player, Abby Maldonado, shot her personal best of 124 and placed ninth overall.
“Very proud of them!”
One of the missing Lady Vikings was Rhododendron Prince Macali Lade, who was tending to courtly duties.
The Siuslaw boys also have their district tournament Monday and Tuesday, playing Trysting Tree Golf Course in Corvallis.
The 3A boys state tournament will be played on the same course the following Monday and Tuesday.

The Siuslaw Open has been rescheduled for Saturday, July 19. It was to be played this Saturday at Florence Golf Links (Sandpines Golf Links.)
